ดนล.1
8 แต่ดาเนียลตั้งใจไว้ว่าจะไม่กระทำตัวให้เป็นมลทินด้วยอาหารสูงของพระราชา หรือด้วยเหล้าองุ่นซึ่งพระองค์ดื่ม เพราะฉะนั้นเขาจึงขอหัวหน้าขันทีให้ยอมเขาที่ไม่กระทำตัวให้เป็นมลทิน
9 และพระเจ้าทรงให้หัวหน้าขันทีชอบและสมเพชดาเนียล
10 และหัวหน้าขันทีจึงกล่าวแก่ดาเนียลว่า "ข้าเกรงว่าพระราชาเจ้านายของข้าผู้ทรงกำหนดอาหารและเครื่องดื่มของเจ้า ทอดพระเนตรเห็นว่า พวกเจ้ามีหน้าซูบซีดกว่าบรรดาคนหนุ่มๆอายุรุ่นราวคราวเดียวกัน เจ้าก็จะกระทำให้ศีรษะของข้าเข้าสู่อันตรายเพราะพระราชา"
11 แล้วดาเนียลจึงกล่าวแก่มหาดเล็กผู้ที่หัวหน้าขันทีกำหนดให้ดูแลดาเนียล ฮานันยาห์ มิชาเอล และอาซาริยาห์
12 ว่า "ขอท่านจงทดลองผู้รับใช้ของท่านสักสิบวัน ขอให้เขานำผักมาให้เรากินและน้ำมาให้เราดื่ม
13 แล้วให้ท่านตรวจดูหน้าตาของเราทั้งหลาย เทียบกับหน้าตาของบรรดาอนุชนผู้รับประทานอาหารสูงของพระราชา และเมื่อท่านเห็นอย่างไรแล้วจงกระทำแก่ผู้รับใช้ของท่านอย่างนั้น"
14 เขาก็ยอมทำตามคนเหล่านั้นในเรื่องนี้และทดลองเขาอยู่สิบวัน
15 เมื่อครบสิบวันแล้วจึงเห็นว่าบรรดาคนเหล่านั้นรูปร่างหน้าตาดีกว่า และเนื้อหนังเต่งตั่งกว่าบรรดาอนุชนที่รับประทานอาหารสูงของพระราชา
16 ดังนั้นมหาดเล็กจึงนำอาหารสูงส่วนของเขาทั้งหลาย และเหล้าองุ่นซึ่งเขาทั้งหลายควรจะได้ดื่มนั้นไปเสีย และให้ผักแก่เขา
17 ฝ่ายอนุชนทั้งสี่คนนี้ พระเจ้าประทานสรรพวิทยา และความชำนาญในเรื่องวิชาทั้งปวงและปัญญา และดาเนียลเข้าใจในนิมิตและความฝันทุกประการ
18 พอสิ้นกำหนดเวลาที่พระราชาทรงบัญชาให้นำเขาทั้งหลายเข้าเฝ้า หัวหน้าขันทีจึงนำเขาทั้งหลายเข้ามาเฝ้าเนบูคัดเนสซาร์
19 และพระราชาก็ทรงสัมภาษณ์เขา ในบรรดาอนุชนเหล่านั้นไม่พบสักคนหนึ่งที่เหมือนดาเนียล ฮานันยาห์ มิชาเอลและอาซาริยาห์ เพราะฉะนั้นเขาจึงได้เข้ารับราชการ
20 ในบรรดาเรื่องราวอันเกี่ยวกับปัญญาและความรอบรู้ ซึ่งพระราชาตรัสถามเขาทั้งหลาย ทรงเห็นว่าเขาทั้งหลายดีกว่าพวกโหร และพวกหมอดู ซึ่งอยู่ในอาณาจักรทั้งสิ้นของพระองค์สิบเท่า
21 และดาเนียลก็ได้รับราชการเรื่อยมาจนต้นรัชกาลพระราชาไซรัส

ดนล.6
1 ดาริอัสพอพระทัยที่จะทรงแต่งตั้งอุปราชหนึ่งร้อยยี่สิบคน ขึ้นเหนือราชอาณาจักร เพื่อจะให้ปกครองอยู่ทั่วราชอาณาจักร
2 และทรงตั้งอภิรัฐมนตรีสามคนอยู่เหนือ มีดาเนียลเป็นอภิรัฐมนตรีคนหนึ่ง เพื่อให้อุปราชรายงานติดต่อ เพื่อพระราชาจะมิได้ทรงขาดประโยชน์
3 แล้วดาเนียลคนนี้ก็มีชื่อเสียงกว่าอภิรัฐมนตรีอื่นๆและอุปราช เพราะวิญญาณเลิศสถิตกับท่าน และพระราชาก็ทรงหมายพระทัยจะทรงแต่งตั้งท่านให้ครอบครองเหนือราชอาณาจักรนั้นทั้งหมด
4 อภิรัฐมนตรีและอุปราชทั้งหลายจึงหามูลเหตุฟ้องดาเนียล ในเรื่องเกี่ยวกับราชอาณาจักรแต่ก็หามูลเหตุหรือความผิดไม่ได้ เพราะท่านเป็นคนซื่อสัตย์จะหาความพลั้งพลาดหรือความผิดในท่านมิได้เลย
5 คนเหล่านี้จึงกล่าวว่า "เราจะหามูลเหตุฟ้องดาเนียลไม่ได้เลย นอกจากเราจะหาเรื่องที่เกี่ยวกับธรรมบัญญัติแห่งพระเจ้าของเขา"
6 แล้วอภิรัฐมนตรีและอุปราชเหล่านี้ได้พากันเข้าเฝ้าพระราชาทูลว่า "ข้าแต่พระราชาดาริอัส ขอทรงพระเจริญเป็นนิตย์
7 อภิรัฐมนตรีแห่งราชอาณาจักร ทั้งข้าหลวงภาค และอุปราชและผู้ว่าราชการเมืองทั้งหลายทั้งสิ้นได้ตกลงกันว่า พระราชาสมควรจะได้ทรงตรากฎหมายและออกประกาศห้ามว่า ในสามสิบวันนี้ถ้าผู้หนึ่งผู้ใดทูลขอต่อพระหรือมนุษย์นอกเหนือพระองค์ ข้าแต่พระราชาก็ให้โยนผู้นั้นลงในถ้ำสิงห์เสีย
8 ข้าแต่พระราชา บัดนี้ขอฝ่าพระบาทตราประกาศห้าม และลงพระนามในหนังสือสำคัญ เพื่อจะเปลี่ยนแปลงไม่ได้ ตามกฎหมายของคนมีเดีย และคนเปอร์เซีย ซึ่งจะแก้ไขหาได้ไม่"
9 เพราะฉะนั้นพระราชาดาริอัส จึงทรงลงพระนามในหนังสือสำคัญและประกาศห้าม
10 เมื่อดาเนียลทราบว่าลงพระนามในหนังสือสำคัญนั้นแล้ว ท่านก็ไปยังเรือนของท่าน ที่มีหน้าต่างห้องชั้นบนของท่านเปิดตรงไปยังกรุงเยรูซาเล็ม และท่านก็คุกเข่าลงวันละสามครั้งอธิษฐานและโมทนาพระคุณต่อพระเจ้าของท่าน ดังที่ท่านได้เคยกระทำมาแต่ก่อน


Dan.1
8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
9 Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.
10 And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.
11 Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,
12 Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.
13 Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king's meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.
14 So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days.
15 And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king's meat.
16 Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse.
17 As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
18 Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.
19 And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king.
20 And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.
21 And Daniel continued even unto the first year of king Cyrus.

Dan.6
1 It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom;
2 And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage.
3 Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.
4 Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.
5 Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.
6 Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Darius, live for ever.
7 All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.
8 Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
9 Wherefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree.
10 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.
